Dr. Elizabeth Bishop (@DrBishopDigital) is an award-winning educator, researcher, writer and youth advocate with two decades in public schools, universities and non-profit organizations across the United States. Dr. Bishop currently holds a senior leadership position directing the Impact Hub at Girls for Gender Equity. Dr. Bishop also sits on the faculty of Youth Studies at CUNY SPS and faculty of the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. She is the 2024-2025 Scholar-in-Residence in the English Education program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Bishop previously taught on the faculty of Urban Education at the CUNY Grad Center.
Dr. Bishop is Co-Founder of Global Turning Points, an international consulting collective. Bishop has previously held leadership positions at Columbia Law School, Teachers College at Columbia University, the City University of New York, Ithaca College and the NYC Department of Education. She also held leadership and consulting positions with leading community organizations including Global Kids, Girls for Gender Equity, Phipps Neighborhoods, Sandy Hook Promise, Cause Effective and Leadership Fellows amongst others. She was 2023 Hive Digital Learning Fellow and is a 2024 NTEN Tech Equity Fellow.
Dr. Bishop holds a Ph.D. in Education: Language, Literacy and Culture, an M.S.T. in Adolescent Education, an M.A. in Literary and Cultural Studies, and a B.A. in Planned Studies. In 2022, Bishop completed the Executive Global Leadership Diploma out of the Center for Executive Education at the University for Peace in Costa Rica and in September 2024 will be a member of the University of Pennsylvania Data Science Methods for Digital Learning Platforms cohort. She has authored three books, numerous articles, and has been featured in Good Morning America Digital, PBS NewsHour, Business Insider and PolitiFact. Bishop’s writing includes her 2015 Becoming Activist: Critical Literacy and Youth Organizing, her 2018 Embodying Theory: Epistemology, Aesthetics and Resistance which she created in collaboration with artist Tamsen Wojtanowski and her 2023 Whiting Out: Writing on Vulnerability, Racism and Repair. Bishop has a new book titled Disrupting Data: Youth Activism and Anti-Surveillance Storytelling forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan.
Dr. Bishop is a board member of the International Surf Therapy Organization and is co-leading a global study around the knowledge, practices and curricula of surf therapy practitioners at 160 organizations on 6 continent. Bishop is also an advisory committee member at Human Rights Watch Children’s Rights Division.
